Without Geneva Convention Protection
Without laws like the Geneva Convention, bad things can happen to people like The Holocaust, The Malmedy Massacre and the bad treatment of Vietnam War prisoners.
The Holocaust
The Holocaust happened during WWII. The Nazi's killed 6 million Jewish people, gypsies and other people. Prisoners were starved and many died or you could see their rib cage.
Men and women in concentration camps had their heads shaved. The Nazis used the hair to make thread, socks for submarine crews, mattress stuffing and other things.
The Malmedy Massacre
In a field near a crossroads in Belgium, captured US soldiers were killed in a field by the German Secret Service. Few survivors had to play dead in order to escape. It is called The Malmedy Massacre.
POWs in Vietnam
Many soldiers were treated badly and tortured during the Vietnam War. Senator John McCain was prisoner for 5 years and sometimes had his hands tied behind his back, then hung by his arms from the ceiling.
